This course provides students with the tools and techniques balanced with theory in today’s world, which has today taken the shape of fashion industry. This program equips students to pursue a wide range of career prospects as designers in apparel manufacturing, merchandising, marketing management, quality assurance, production planning & control and product engineering. The course also tunes student’s entrepreneurial skills to set up their own manufacturing units and export start-ups.
History of Fashion
- Introduction to the critical study of modern culture by specifically considering the significance of fashion and clothing development in Europe and North America.
- Its historic understandings of gender, race, sexuality, space, and the body.
- Themes explored in this course include identity construction, consumerism, power, subversion, and agency.
- Identify and evaluate cultural theories related to fashion history and understand how clothing and fashion act as cultural indicators and expressions of identity.
Textile Science
- Introduction to textiles and classification of fibers according to source, process of yarn formation, method of fabric construction, finishes, dyeing.
- Students will gain knowledge about textile fibers and their uses.
- They will use this knowledge to develop an understanding about various kinds of fabrics, their structure, and the utility.
- To impart knowledge about textile dyeing and printing.
- To develop skills in understanding textiles available in the market.
Fundamentals of Design and Applications
- Topic that will be covered are types of design, functions of lines, color theory, trimmings & decorations.
- To familiarize students with the design elements and principles and its application in fashion designing.
- To induce an organized methodology in developing a successful collection/line of garments.
- Fashion design basic core.
- Color theory along with design sketching.
